Like you have been for decades
Taken out of the chain of life
Your energy still lingers for me to find.
from Wolf Song, by Elke Duerr
Time is running out for the Lobo...
Illegal poaching, traffic deaths, recapturing of whole packs and digging up of pups has kept the population at a minimum, with only a few actual breeding pairs remaining. The lobo is facing extinction for the second time.
There are only 52 animals left in the wild, and its numbers are declining by the minute.
It is the most endangered mammal in North America and faces extinction for the second time. Yet, there was time when it was an integral, thriving part of the web of life, keeping the herds healthy and strong. Many ancient and modern day cross cultural tales revolve around the Lobo and we tell them in our film. Some of them are depicting it as the Big Bad Wolf, some speak of reverence and awe and some look at the philosophical side of having the top predator of the food chain return to public and private land dominated by cattle and other livestock.
The wolf is gaining in popularity in people’s hearts, yet is being jeopardized by vanishing territory due to human settlement efforts, poaching, farming, ranching and hunting.
Hatred and fear towards the wolf are not supported by any scientific evidence. After all, its social structure, family life and playful behavior very much remind us of those of humans. Where does each one of us stand in this issue and what can we do for the successful return of the Lobo?
It is our deep belief that this can be turned around by looking at creative solutions through education, outreach and love and appreciation for all creatures, wild and domesticated.
We need your help.
