Wolf Stories
Recently, Elke Duerr had an opportunity to speak with some of the school-children of New Mexico and asked the kids what kind of words they would use to describe the wolves. Here are some the words they came up up:
"Powerful, Awesome, Incredible, Fast hunter, Predator, Strong, Wonderful, Fearsome, Fast, Awe inspiring, Intelligent, Beautiful, Endangered"
She also asked the kids "What does it mean for us to still have wolves around in the wild and not just in the zoo?" Here are some of their responses:
- It is a privilege to have them around
- It is good for the ecosystem
- Then we can visit them and we know that they are there
- Even if I do not see t hem ever in the wild it feels good to know that they are around
- They are awesome creatures and it is good to have them around
- They are just cool animals
- We all have a place on this earth and we were all created together and we all belong
- They belong here just as much as we do and as cows do
It turns out that kids already have a pretty good understanding of the wolves of New Mexico!
