The Big Bad Wolf
Contrary to popular belief, wolves are shy, avoid people and are not to be feared.
Although Little Red Riding Hood and The Three Little Pigs propagate the picture of the big, bad wolf, there is no reason to be afraid of them.
They do not readily attack small children, although they are very curious and will sometimes come up to people that are in their territory and check them out.
Their facial expressions sometimes appear scary as they bare their teeth to communicate with each other. These depictions of wolves curiously make the headlines much more readily than those of wolves in submissive postures. Usually they are meant to elicit fear in humans.
Yet, our beloved dogs show similar facial expressions when faced with intruders in their territory or issues of dominance.
