Challenges for the Wolves

The reintroduced Mexican Wolves are facing many challenges.

Human opposition to their presence is high. People got used to their absence and are now questioning their reintroduction.

The wolves lack support and a welcoming attitude towards them, even though they are the most vital part of the ecosystem, keeping herds of deer and elk healthy and strong by eliminating the sick, weak and old ones and leaving the strongest ones to procreate.

Where there are wolves, the balance of the ecosystem is being restored.

The old fear of the wolf has been revived and way fewer wolves are currently inhabiting the 4 million acre recovery area than was previously calculated.

Conservationists are warning that the genetic pool of the Mexican Gray Wolf is declining due to killings and removals and that time is running out for the Lobo of New Mexico.
